The ABWU Children's Welfare Home and ABWU Primary School celebrated their Diamond
Jubilee on 3rd February, 2010. Ms. Beth Payne, U.S. Consul General was the
Chief Guest at the programme.
The School was started in 1950, to educate the children living in the shelter home.
The school began to grow as more and more underprivileged children from nearby slums
began to move in. Most of these children were first generation learners.
Today the school has come a long way There are nearly 200 children studying in this
school. Some of these children are so economically deprived that they hardly get
a proper meal at home. The school provides a mid day tiffin as well as all round
education. The school is recognized by the Government and follows the prescribed
syllabus. The children learn maths, history, geography, science, nature study and
english. They participate in interschool sports, debates, competitions and learn
needlework, acting and gymnastics. Many children pursue higher studies and later
have worthwhile careers. The mission of the school is to make the children self-reliant
and useful citizens as well as to lead them to a brighter future.
The primary School held a Summer Camp for their students during the summer holidays.
All the children enjoyed the camp thoroughly.
