children welfare home In 1950, the Children's Welfare Home was established to provide shelter and care to the children of helpless women who were victims of atrocities, natural disasters and manmade calamities like the Bengal famine, partition of Bengal and the Bangladesh war. Slowly the numbers grew and today there are about 185 children residing in this home, most of whom are orphans, children of single parents, born in jail, lost or abandoned. The children are provided with clothes, food, medicine, counselling and education, both formal and non-formal. They enjoy many recreational activities, excel in painting, drawing, dancing and are active members of Girl Guides. They have won gold, silver and bronze medals in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme as good citizens, aware of their social responsibilities.
